Tony's gotten soooo off-model in these few pages. I figured out what's wrong, I'm drawing his face way too long. Ugh! Gonna leave it that way because the only way to fix it, I would have to redraw all these pages. So there's this one and the next two he'll still look all cereal-box-head like this, but next time you see him he's going to look more the way I envision him.
This is my problem, I don't realize what is wrong with a given thing until it's already finished and ready to ship out.
Oh my god it really doesn't even look like the same person I'M SO SORRY FOLKS PLEASE BE LENIENT REGARDING MY FACIAL INCONSISTENCY. Here. Here on the home page. This is what Tony is supposed to look like all the time.
Tony has ALWAYS given me a hard time when drawing him. Something about his design, it's like I just can't get a handle on him. "Why haven't you done something about it, Bravo?" Because I've only now realized just how very bad it is.
Sorry, friends. Will you still hang out with me when I start drawing him different/correct? Golly I really do hope so
I can't judge, I have the same issue. I decided not to update until I got it right, so I feel your pain there.
@The_Hankerchief: It's such a drag, isn't it? I sat down last night and just really worked the hell out of what Tony looks like in profile. It took a lot of erasing and trying things that at first didn't look right but I think I finally figured out how to convey him- at least from the side :/ Facing front and three quarter views, maybe I'll work on those tonight.
Design consistency is HARD. I try to draw characters at least a few times before they appear in the comic but even then something slips occasionally, or I end up improving and just doing certain things differently.
@Oly-RRR: Yup yup yup! And sometimes you just form a habit that is difficult to break out of. I went through a lot of that over the years I've been doing this comic. Oh I do so like when I improve something though, then at least the inconsistency seems benevolent :P
