Aaaand THAT's the end of the scene now.

This page didn't really take me a week to do. I just got really lazy after the first coat turned out embarassingly shitty. The second pass made it salvageable. I was gonna draw out Cal and Leon, but I've already drawn them kissing before, and they were even sitting on the same sides that time, too!!! >:(

W/regard to the next scene- expect a delay longer than usual because I'm going away for a week and I don't know how long it's going to take me to do the thing. This whole scene was really easy and low-key to draw. Two of the easiest characters to draw, natural outdoorsy backgrounds have a lot of organic forgiveness, the drenching lighting meant I just used markers and didn't bother with textures. The next scene is going to be a PITA to make because it's partly an indoor industrial setting and partly indoors at night in shitty gritty lighting featuring two of the hardest characters to draw. If I recall correctly it's only 3 pages though so who the fuck knows! Who the fuck knows.

Who!

Also the page title is from a No Doubt song that I felt was fitting for the scenario.

Oi vei, I'm getting closer to the end of current pages... D: Pfff haha "no more with the yiddish."

And this is really adorable! It's weird, I've been thinking how I'm generally not one for romantic themes in fiction buuuut when it happens to characters I like I'm as mushy as anyone so I guess my idea of "I don't like romance" just has something to do with romantic protagonists I usually see.

Reply mitchellbravo, August 1st, 2014, 9:17 pm

@Oly-RRR: I KNOWWW YOU'RE ALL CAUGHT UP NOWWWW :'( Hahahahahaha aww thanks!! I feel the same way, I think... it's like, if the romance is there before the appreciation/understanding of the character is there, it's really janky and dumb to me, but if I like the character first I'll be quite pleased to see them find a successful romance :P

Lmao, and since we keep ragging on Tumblr kids- it's again a good thing that the closest thing I had in those years was Livejournal and away messages on AIM, I could imagine if I'd had tumblr I'd have gone on sweeping martyr posts about how I'M NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS because I DON'T LIKE CHICK FLICKS AND ROMANCES XD

Reply Oly-RRR, August 1st, 2014, 11:05 pm

@mitchellbravo: It's a good point! I KNOW IT'S NOT OBVIOUS FROM MY COMICS but sometimes it's just really satisfying seeing characters you like happy.

Haha, gosh, I still have an old Livejournal account sitting out there - I should hide old posts if not delete the whole account but I'm just terrified of going there because I already don't remember what I might find but don't feel good about it. XD

Reply mitchellbravo, August 2nd, 2014, 12:30 am

@Oly-RRR: LOL. It's okay! Like we were talking about before, there is a feeling of hope in your story at least :D It might be partly due to the fact that the art is adorably cute and not like GRIM DESPAIR BLOODSOAKED CROSSHATCHING XP

Hahahahaha a friend and I have been meaning to get together one night to read our LiveJournals to each other and drink until we forget our teenage years XD Ohmygod. I just remembered the last post in there is about me having met the love of my life and finally having my life on track &c &c... this was at like age 19 I DON'T EVEN KEEP CONTACT WITH THAT PERSON ANYMORE AND MY LIFE WAS NOT ON TRACK ANY MORE THAN A FLYING PLANE IS ATTACHED TO THE AIR.

Reply Oly-RRR, August 2nd, 2014, 12:46 am

@mitchellbravo: D'awww, thanks! X) Oh man, it reminded me that on my travels through the internet art communities I have discovered a tribe of people who think painting with blood is a thing. I... I don't want to know where they get it but SURELY THERE ARE OTHER WAYS TO EXPRESS THEIR DEEP AND TRAGIC ARTSY IDEAS D:

Oh gosh, yeah! I remember there was a comic (I can't put my finger on the name of the artist, otherwise I'd link it) where there was a dialogue between then-teenage artist's diary and now-adult artist, answering herself in that comic. It was great to read but I know I wouldn't be able to pull anything like that off myself because even if I dig up my old writing all I'll be able to say on it will probably be moans of frustration. XD

Reply mitchellbravo, August 2nd, 2014, 1:28 am

@Oly-RRR: Ummmmm soooo my boyfriend has a saying from when he was an EMT- "Air goes in and out, blood goes round and round, any deviation from this is bad." I thiiiink bleeding to paint proooobably counts as thaaaat. (That's not even touching on the use of menstrual blood in art which just makes me want to stay home)

OMG. I had a comic with a blatant self-insert and a blatant stand-in of my crush at the time that I started when I was in like sixth grade? Anyway I literally got THREE PANELS into it and stopped MIDWAY THROUGH A CHARACTER'S FACE and then the paper disappeared for years. It resurfaced when I was like 16 or 17 and I was compelled to complete it. I'll have to find it so I can post it.

Omg, omg, and there was another one as well- there was like, a proto-Loud Era from when I was 12 or so? Like same type of big cast, varying personalities, blah blah blah- again, I got like a few panels into it and then stopped abruptly and then found the unfinished comic years later and had to finish it. XD

My *actual* diaries would probably require a little more finesse to deal with. And a half gallon of wine to be safe.

Reply Oly-RRR, August 2nd, 2014, 2:11 pm

@mitchellbravo: I like that saying! :D No matter where they get that blood from - AUGH BODILY FLUIDS ARE NOT ART SUPPLIES I THOUGHT WE COVERED THIS WITH POOP

...note the recurring themes in our conversations! XD

Heheh, gosh, it sounds fun! :D I keep meaning to find and scan my awful old comics but keep forgetting.

Reply mitchellbravo, August 2nd, 2014, 2:20 pm

@Oly-RRR: LOL YES. PLEASE DON'T MAKE YOUR ART PIECE A BIOHAZARD.

Hahahahhahaaha I think it's jsut because we can appreciate the things that are truly important in life XD

It seems like each time I come across one I go "I BETTER PUT THIS ASIDE SO I CAN SCAN IT." And then an hour later I wonder why these papers are out and put them back where they belonged XP
