For some reason, Mr. Harper's eyes used to be blue/gray, then were brown one time, and, well, I like them blue better, so back to blue they are.
I feel like feature-wise, Joseph is the spitting image of his robust father while Uly has more delicate features like the mom. But when drawing this scene, I could see a lot of things that Mr. Harper and Uly have in common, more in terms of mannerisms and demeanor. (I also realize I have drawn Ulysses a lot more than any of you have seen him, so these similarities are probably not as readily apparent to you). And the chip on Joseph's shoulder, which I assure you would have been there bad-legs or not, is something he didn't inherit from either parent.
And that bar scene is still probably one of my favorite scenes I've ever drawn, and I'll link to it whenever it is even slightly relevant.
Look at it this way, Joseph - at least they are your own flesh and blood and not aliens or government agencies. :D Being physically AND mentally disabled would suck even harder in those times (and even now).
All expressions made me grin, this page made my day, and man, you know I'm so looking forward to seeing Uly again (particularly after getting a better idea of the bros' parents now).
@Oly-RRR: THAT IS A GOOD POINT. Joseph was pretty "lucky" in that regard, I can imagine if Uly had been the one "stricken" instead, he might have ended up in uh... worse conditions, just because Joseph has a bit more wit about him and maybe Uly would have people convinced he had some mental issues going on as well (which I mean he totally does lmao but not of the sort people tended to get put away for...)
AHHH YEYYY :D :D I had so much fun with the expressions myself, mad panel 3 Joseph cracked me up when I first got it down :P Oh man and I really want to fast forward to a point in time with Uly in it PERHAPS I SHALL JUST PM YOU SECRET ULIES THOUGH
@mitchellbravo: It also made me think of that syndrome where a part of your brain that has to do with visual signals getting emotional responses from your brain malfunctions so you see people you know but get zero emotional response, and that's what causes people to think their family members were "replaced" (and if it's only the visual part of the brain affected they recognize them fine if they talk on the phone and can't see them). UNLESS OF COURSE THE FAMILY MEMBERS IN QUESTION REALLY WERE REPLACED. IT'S A WONDERFUL WORLD OUT THERE...
PM ME ALL THE SECRET ULIES, ALL OF THEM 8D
@Oly-RRR: Is that why people get Capgras' Delusion?!?!?! I never knew that's how it worked!! LEARNING NEW THINGS IS GOOD
@mitchellbravo: You remembered the name and I remembered how it works - WE MAKE A GOOD TEAM XD
